Europe fears that Russia will capture up to quarter of the world organic market

European media are actively discussing the statements of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Minister of Agriculture Alexander Tkachev about the intention of the Government of the Russian Federation to make Russian organic agriculture a driver of development.

Thus, European media drew attention to the intention of the Government of the Russian Federation to subsidize the production of environmentally friendly products in the country. Attention is also drawn to the potential resources of organic Russian agriculture. "Currently, production in Russia is only 1% of the world organic food market, and over the next few years this percentage may increase to 10-25%," foreign experts predict.

Expectations are due to the fact that unlike China and the United States, Russia does not focus on growing genetically modified plants. In addition, almost 10 million hectares of farmland in the 90 years of the twentieth century were abandoned and turned into disreputable. And now most of them are not put into circulation. If we consider that for a long time they did not use agrochemistry, then Russia is practically the largest owner in the world of virgin lands suitable for organic farming. "All this allows us to expect another surprise from unpredictable Russia," writes farmer.pl.
