According to Minister of Agriculture of Russia Dmitry Patrushev, the yield in the current season is about 4 quintals per hectare lower than in 2017. Such a conclusion was made after collecting the first million tons of grain of the new crop.
Patrushev called among the main reasons for the decline in yield unfavorable climatic conditions - drought in the southern regions of Russia and a cold rainy spring in the Urals and Siberia. Drought has led to the fact that in some regions the harvesting campaign was started 20 days earlier than usual. So, the Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, the Crimea and Adygea have already begun to harvest. Because of the weather, Siberian and Ural farmers had to change the timing of the sowing campaign. According to the Minister, all this can lead to a decrease in the grain harvest in 2018 to 100 million tons.
