Russian authorities are studying the feasibility of poultry production growth

The poultry producers' union should take an active part in self-regulation of the domestic market, said Anatoly Kutsenko, director of the Department of Economics, Investments and Regulation of Agricultural Markets of the Ministry of Agriculture, at a conference call on the development of domestic poultry.

"The growth in poultry meat production recorded at the end of two months of this year is a good indicator, but does the market need this growth without a significant increase in exports?" Kutsenko asked. He noted that companies should clearly understand "how to grow and where to sell products." "A key significance in answering these questions belongs to the poultry producers' union, which should develop regulatory decisions and implement appropriate actions," Kutsenko said.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture, the level of production of poultry meat since 1990 in Russia has increased by 2.7 times. In 2017, according to Rosstat, the output increased by 6.9% to 6.6 million tonnes, including in agricultural organizations - by 7.6% to 6.1 million tonnes. In January-February, production in agricultural organizations added another 7.2% to the same period of 2017, reaching 1 million tons. The specific weight of poultry meat in total meat production, according to the estimates of the agrarian department, is now over 45%. At the same time, the export potential for poultry meat has not been realized yet, said the first deputy Minister of Agriculture Dzhambulat Khatuov. In 2017, 163 thousand tons of poultry were exported, the products were delivered to 34 countries far abroad and eight CIS countries.
