Greenhouse gases will be regulated

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade expects that the draft law on reducing greenhouse gas emissions will be considered in the coming weeks at a government meeting; now its final approvals are underway. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade Maxim Reshetnikov during the final session of the Russian-European Conference on Climate.

"Now the draft of this law [on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions] is in the government of the Russian Federation, the draft has already passed several approvals with the presidential administration and, taking into account the issuance of the decree [by the president on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions], final approvals are underway. We expect that in the coming weeks this bill will be considered at a meeting of the government of the Russian Federation, and thus we will begin to create a new foundation for the regulation of greenhouse gases," Reshetnikov said.

The minister added that the draft of this law has been developed in the ministries over the past two years, and this year its final approval has been completed. In addition, the ministry is preparing a low-carbon development strategy that will set priorities for reducing emissions, government tasks and targets, the minister added. Earlier, Reshetnikov noted that the Ministry of Economic Development hopes to submit to the State Duma a bill to regulate greenhouse gas emissions this year.
