D.Rylko: The bioethanol production in Russia needs state support

The bioethanol production can be the most realistic direction in the deep processing of grain in Russia. Bioethanol can be produced and sold in significant quantities, said Dmitry Rylko, director of the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies.

Globally, now about 500m tons of agricultural products are spent annually on bioethanol production, including 310m tons of sugar cane, 158m tons of corn and only five million tons of wheat. Dmitry Rylko noted that, according to experts, Russia can process up to 6m tons of grain a year to produce an additive to gasoline. The main limitations are the lack of state support and the opposition of the energy lobby, which argues that bioethanol replaces traditional fuels. But this is just an environmentally friendly additive, unlike the synthetic additives used by the Russian fuel industry.
