OmSAU took part in the International Wheat Congress

July 21 - 26, the 1st International Wheat Congress was held in Saskatoon (Saskatchewan, Canada). Prof. Vladimir Shamanin, Omsk State Agrarian University (Omsky Biocluster member) reported at a plenary session on the topic of genetic resources for breeding spring wheat in Siberia.

 

The event was attended by more than 900 scientists - breeders, geneticists and physiologists. At the congress, 84 oral presentations were heard, including 52 in plenary meetings. Vladimir Shamanin's report was the only oral report from the countries of the former USSR. Omsk researcher talked about selection in Western Siberia and the results achieved. In general, the methodological approaches and directions of wheat selection in the Omsk State Agrarian University correspond to the international level, however, the technical equipment of selection and genetic research, staffing are far from world standards.
