Specialists of the Laboratory of Quarantine Phytosanitary Examinations and Surveys of the Omsk Reference Center of Rosselkhoznadzor (member of Omsky Biocluster) explored more than 120 pheromone traps installed in granaries with an area of more than 3000 square meters. As a result of the quarantine entomological expertise, the Khapra beetle (Trogoderma granarium, a dangerous pest) was not found.
The traps were installed to determine the phytosanitary condition of the objects and to detect the presence of a quarantine pest of stocks - Khapra beetle. Note that this quarantine pest of food reserves in Omsk region is not registered. The damage from insect pests is huge and multifaceted. The larvae of the capric beetle eat out, in the first place, the germ of grains, which leads to the loss of seed qualities and turns contaminated products into a powdery mass consisting of residues of food and excrement, unsuitable for use in food and animal feed due to its virulence. They can destroy up to 60-70% of stored products.
The Khapra beetle is an extremely dangerous and difficult to eradicate pest. Russia implements a system of state quarantine measures to prevent the large damage that a beetle can inflict on stored grain products. One of the most important tools to prevent infection is a thorough survey of storage facilities, storing and processing plant products. Surveys are carried out by external examination and sampling of imported products.
