Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law granting the government of Russia, subject to the relevant decision of the Russian president, the right to impose restrictions on the supply of products originating in the United States, the Kremlin press service said.
It should be noted that, according to the first draft of the bill, it was stipulated that this measure could be taken with regard to the supply of all types of agricultural products, as well as technological equipment and software. However, when the document was finalized for the second reading in the State Duma of the Russian Federation, the reference to specific industries, goods and services, in respect of which restrictive measures could be introduced, was excluded from the text of the draft law. Also, the text of the law stipulates that restrictive measures can be taken against other states that support such actions of the United States.
Obviously, the policy of mutual sanctions and counter-sanctions is leading international trade into a dead end. Whether the Russian counterforce is only an ideological item or the Russian authorities will apply the law in practice, 2018 will show.
