Agricultural drones go to the sky

The agrodron market will grow from $ 1.2 billion in 2019 to $ 4.8 billion by 2024. According to the report of the analytical agency MarketsandMarkets, the basic factors affecting the growth of the agricultural drones market are the need for increased food and more venture financing for the development of agrodron technologies.

"Thanks to improvements such as automation and GPS navigation, which have already changed the agricultural industry, drones are now ready to upgrade it again," the report says. Researchers believe that “drones allow on-line monitoring at a much more accurate and cost-effective level than previously used satellite images. Drones equipped with hyperspectral, multispectral or thermal sensors are able to identify areas that require changes in irrigation. As soon as the crop starts to grow, these sensors calculate the vegetation index, a measure of health, measuring the heat characteristic of the crop."

North America is expected to occupy the largest share of the agricultural drones market during the forecast period. This is due to the release of agrodrons from some of the rules of the Federal Aviation Administration, which leads to the widespread use of drones in agriculture and attracts more investment.

It should be noted that the use of drones in Russian agriculture has repeatedly become the subject of research by the residents of Omsky Biocluster StartUpAcademia and the Innovation Promotion Foundation (Omsky Biocluster partner) as part of the UMNIK contest.
