In 2017, Omsk farmers and grain carriers faced difficulties in exporting grain to other regions and abroad due to large volumes of products and a shortage of transport. The authorities promised that they took into account the shortcomings of last year.
"As a result of last year, the work was carried out in such a way that the wagons for grain transportation were ordered in advance, now we need to organize everything, because today there are 16.5M tons of unrealized coal in coal-producing companies' warehouses, and this is besides the export of grain. There may be a traffic collapse," Sergei Menyaylo, the presidential envoy to the Siberian Federal District, said on September 4. He added that only Omsk region needs 5,500 wagons.
As the first deputy chairman of the Omsk region government Valery Boyko said, the issue of transporting the future crop is being solved in the region right now. Today we have about 300 wagons in the region, we can ship at any time. Together with the Russian Railways, we coordinated 970 wagons for September, as of October 865. We plan to have only 1,500 wagons," Boyko said.
It is planned to take out 2M tons of grain from Siberia in total, including 800K tons for export.
