The construction of a plant for processing wheat into biopolymers has begun in Lipetsk

Rustark LLC, a resident of Lipetsk Special Economic Zone, began construction of a plant for the deep processing of wheat raw materials into starch products and biopolymers (innovative materials for the production of environmentally friendly bioplastics).

The investment plan involves four stages of introducing new capacities. At the first stage, until 2021, it will process 500 tons of wheat per day and produce modified starch, which is not currently produced in Russia. The total investment at this stage is RUR 8 billion ($ 121.12 million), including the preparation of infrastructure for further development.

At the next stages, biopolymers and biomonomers, biopolymer products and bioplastics will be produced. The total project cost is estimated at RUR 63 billion ($ 953.78 million). Rustark LLC Managing Partner, Roman Kozyrev:

"As raw materials for plastic, not wheat will be used, but wheat grown in the Lipetsk region. The material obtained as a result of its processing is indistinguishable from the traditional by its physical and chemical properties, however, it will be split with time, thereby not creating harm to the environment."
