Gross harvest of soybeans in Russia will again be a record

Gross harvest of soybeans in Russia in season-2017/18 will again be record and will make 3.6 million tons. But even these volumes will not satisfy the needs of the domestic market and processing enterprises, which increase production volumes, says Anna Bulatova, analyst of APK-Inform.

In the last three seasons, the production of soybean processing products has been actively growing in Russia (from 3 million tons in the 2015-2016 season to 3.5 million tons in the 2017/18 season) and their domestic consumption (from 2.9 million tons in the season-2015/16 to 3.4 million tons in the season-2017/18). The main driver for the development of soybean processing is the increase in the number of cattle and poultry.

Agrarians are forced to import the missing amount of soybean meal to create a fodder base. In the current season, analysts of the APK-Inform Agency forecast an increase in imports of up to 300 thousand tons. The main suppliers of soybean meal in Russia in 2016/17 MY were Spain (34%), Latvia (32%) and Germany (18%).
