China builds High-rise Hog Hotel

The Chinese pork producer, the Yangxiang company, is completing the construction of two pig farms of 7 floors each. In 2019, it is planned to build two buildings of 9 floors, and in two years - two more of 13 floors.

High-rise Hog Hotel will save space and increase production efficiency, the company believes. Farms are designed to keep sows and pigs until weaning. Also, placing pigs on isolated floors will minimize the risks of spreading pathogens.

The cost of a High-rise Hog Hotel per sow exceeds this for a regular farm four times - 2000 euros against 500 euros. However, fewer employees can work on this farm - four people per 1000 sows in High-rise accommodation and ten people - at one-story.
