Russia imported 150 thousand tons of cheese fake in 2017

Russia last year imported more than 150,000 tons of fake cheese products, which are often repackaged and sold like real cheese, Russian Agriculture Minister Alexander Tkachev told RIA Novosti.

"According to experts, Russia only in 2017 imported more than 150 thousand tons of fake cheese, which is made from vegetable fats and whey," Tkachev said. He added that "this dubious product" is often packaged and sold in the trade networks like real cheese. "If the situation does not change, the population will be forced to buy dairy products of questionable quality, and Russian agroproducers will move to bankruptcy because of the reduced demand for milk," the minister said.
