Consumption of confectionery and chocolate by Russians is growing

Consumption of confectionery in January-March in the Russian Federation was 24.5 kg. per year per person, which corresponds to the record indicators of 2017. Consumption of consumers for confectionery products averaged 7097 RUR ($ 112.29) per person per year.

The consumption of chocolate was 5 kg per year per person. In the first quarter of 2018, the figure rose to 5.1 kg per person in terms of a year. As experts say, the reason is a small redistribution of demand and outflow of consumers from other categories - sugary and flour confectionery products of short shelf-life (cakes).

According to the Confectionery Market Research Center, chocolate and chocolate confectionery products account for the largest share in the structure of spending on sweets: 38% (confectionery products of long shelf life - 24%, sugary ones - 27%, cakes - 11%).

The main trends of 2017, according to experts: the preservation of low prices for basic types of confectionery raw materials, the growth of consumer demand in the domestic market, increased sales for exports. At the end of the year, confectionery sales in the country amounted to 1.04 trillion RUR ($ 16.46 billion), production volumes - 3.63 million tons. Export of sweets of domestic production reached $ 982 million.
