This year, Kazakhstan expects to harvest at the same level as last year, or at least 20.3 million tons, as Agriculture Minister Saparkhan Omarov told a Friday briefing in the central communications service.
"According to the forecast for the harvest (grain - ed.), I want to say that this year we expect at the level of last year. Last year we harvested 20.3 million tons of grain. And this year we plan at the same level," Omarov said.
At the end of 2018, Kazakhstan collected 20.3 million tons of grain in net weight. Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture reported that the area of spring sowing this year amounted to 19.0 million hectares, of which cereals - 14.5 million hectares, oilseeds - 2.7 million hectares, vegetables and gourds and potatoes - 458,300 hectares, forage crops - 1.2 million hectares, industrial crops (sugar beet, cotton, tobacco) - 144,000 hectares.
