Meeting on improving wheat was held in Omsk

The 13th international meeting of the Kazakhstan-Siberian Wheat Improvement Network (KASIB) was held in OmSAU (member of Omsky Biocluster) from 1 to 3 August, in which leading researchers in the field of wheat selection and genetics participated in the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), OmSAU and the Agrarian Research Center, selection and genetic institutes of the National Agrarian Research and Education Center of Kazakhstan, the Russian Academy of Sciences. Financial support for the meeting was provided by CIMMYT, the Russian Science Foundation (project 16-16-10005) and Omsk State Agrarian University.

 

The meeting was attended by the rector of Omsk State Agrarian University Oksana Shumakova and the Vice-Rector for Research Vitaly Aleshchenko. Leading researchers of OmSAU and other cities of Russia (Novosibirsk, St. Petersburg), foreign countries (Mexico, Turkey, Kazakhstan) report on breeding, genetics, resistance to diseases and wheat quality.

 

The results of the selection programs were presented by the leading researchers of Russia and Kazakhstan. Participants of the meeting visited the experimental fields of OmSAU and the Agrarian Research Center, inspected selection crops of spring soft and hard wheat, got acquainted with the experience of Omsk breeders. At the end of the meeting, the program of selection and genetic work for the future was adopted, the time and place of the next meeting of researchers was determined.
