Russia has set a record for wheat planting

For this year's harvest, all Russian farms sowed wheat on 29.4 million hectares, which is 4.8% more than in 2019, according to Rosstat data. This is a record area for the post-Soviet period, the SovEkon Analytical Center draws attention. Including spring wheat occupied 12.56 million hectares (plus 0.29 million hectares by 2019), winter wheat - 16.86 million hectares (plus 1.06 million hectares).

 

Earlier, estimates of the harvest in Russia were mainly based on the wheat sown area of 28.8 million hectares; in early June, the Ministry of Agriculture increased the estimate to 29.1 million hectares. SovEkon used its estimate of the sown area at 29.3 million hectares, now the center's analysts predict the wheat harvest at 79.7 million tons, with a possible increase to 80 million tons.
