China: Pig population is stabilizing

According to reports from the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture, measures taken to combat ASF in China have begun to produce results: the herd population is stabilizing, and price increases are slowing down.

Special measures have been introduced to ensure stable recovery of production in 18 provinces of China, including Hebei, Shandong and Sichuan. In addition, new pig farms are being built. Other signs of improving the situation in pig breeding are the restoration of feed production for piglets and the growth in sales of repair pigs, which have grown significantly.

The reaction of pork prices is mirrored by changes in the pig sector. So, over the past four weeks, the growth in prices for live pigs has slowed down from 8.7% growth four weeks ago to 1.8%. In total, the price of pork reached CNY 42.57 per kg ($ 5.96), while the spread in prices in various provinces of China remains.
