Russians eat more meat, and drink less milk

Last year, every Russian ate 75.7 kg. meat and meat products, which is almost two kilograms more than in 2016, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation reported. Officials believe that such interest in meat, in the first place, is associated with its cheaper. According to the Ministry, consumer prices for meat and poultry decreased by 2.3% last year, including poultry meat fell by 6.6%, pork - by 1.9%.

US is the world leader in per capita meat consumption - 120 kg. per person per year.

But the consumption of milk and dairy products in the past year fell to 233 kg. The level of consumption of dairy products over the past six years has decreased in our country by 16 kg! Officials explain these sad figures by reducing the total resources of milk and dairy products, as well as their appreciation in the face of a decline in real disposable income of the population. At the same time, production of raw milk in all farms increased last year by 1.1% to 31.1 million tons, and self-sufficiency in milk and dairy products amounted to 82.4%. This year it is planned to milk 31.3 million tons, which, incidentally, is still small. Experts believe that to saturate the Russian market, it is necessary to produce 10 million tons of milk more.
