Dangerous weed brought to Omsk from Kazakhstan

Specialists of the Omsk Reference Center of Rosselkhoznadzor (member of Omsky Biocluster) found a dangerous weed in a lot of pepper and two lots of carrots brought to Omsk region from Kazakhstan.

During the investigation of the lot samples, a quarantine weed was identified - a thin-stemmed dodder. This plant is included in the Unified List of Quarantine Objects of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Dodder should be regarded as a serious threat to the state's food and environmental security. The spread of dodger foci will inevitably lead to a deterioration of the ecological situation in the region. Food security of Omsk region will decrease due to increased costs for herbicides, agrotechnical measures, for seed cleaning. Also, the spread of dodder contributes to a decrease in crop yields, pasture productivity, feed and grain quality. In addition, the dodder is a poisonous plant, agricultural animals, while eating dirty hay, get serious poisoning.

Information on the results of the examinations was sent to the Office of the Rosselkhoznadzor of Omsk region.
