Monsanto will transfer part of the technology to Russia

The deal on the merger of the German chemical concern Bayer and the manufacturer of genetically modified seeds and herbicides Monsanto Company, approved, including by the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia is nearing the end. At the same time, experts pay attention to the details of the terms of the deal in Russia, which remain behind the scenes.

Since seeding GMO seeds (one of the main activities of Monsanto) in the Russian Federation is prohibited by the National Security Strategy and a special law, it would seem that Russian GMO opponents have nothing to worry about. But they suspected that the FAS hides the bad details, and the reason for such suspicions was the following words of the head of the FAS, Igor Artemiev: "Monsanto will give us some of the technologies that are not technologies of the last day, but, nevertheless, these are very modern technologies. They will hand them over to the Russian transfer agent and make it available to our agro industry. In part, it will be transferred free of charge, partly paid - under licensing agreements, because this is an intellectual right that is protected by a patent, but our companies must have a 30-50% discount. They meet us in the most important way - in the transfer of the most promising technologies, to which they spent hundreds of millions of dollars and which our state will freely use, our agro-industry. This (including) promising seeds that are resistant to pests and give an increased yield."

What specific technologies are involved, the FAS does not specify.
