World prices for cocoa beans increased by 25%, compared with the beginning of 2018. As noted in the Center for Confectionery Market Research with reference to the data of the London Commodity Exchange, the cost of a ton of cocoa beans on April 4 reached 1,733 pounds sterling (on January 2 it was 1,383 pounds).
Prices are rising on worsening forecasts for a future crop in Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana, where there is no precipitation. The collection of beans may decrease, there will be a small deficit of cocoa.
Last year, world prices for cocoa beans were reduced to the lowest levels for the last 10 years. The cost of a ton of cocoa beans on the London Stock Exchange in December was about 1350-1450 pounds sterling per ton. For comparison, in mid-2016, prices were approaching the mark of 2,450 pounds per ton.
Supplies of inexpensive cocoa beans in Russia increased. The growth of consumption of chocolate confectionery products inside the country was registered, the export of Russian chocolate increased.
