100 million hectares of farmland in Russia are not processed

Experts of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation published preliminary results of the agricultural census conducted in 2016 by Rosstat. Experts in the course of the research in Russia identified areas that are not assigned to anyone, as well as territories whose owners do not exist.

At the time of the census, it was believed that Russia included 222 million hectares of farmland. But experts have identified only 142.2 million hectares, that is 64% of all land. The area of unused farmland in 2016 amounted to 97.2 million hectares (44% of all farmland of the Russian Federation), although, according to official estimates, unused farmland is half less - 40 million hectares.
