V.Putin: Russian pork may push the US into the Chinese market

Vladimir Putin said during his speech in the State Duma that domestic pigs can push the US into the Chinese market in the conditions of the continuation of the trade war between Beijing and Washington. According to the president, Russia is still struggling for the Chinese pork market, but has not yet achieved the desired result. He hopes that soon this situation will change.

Today, China ranks first in the world for pork consumption. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), demand for this meat in China this year will reach 56.1 million tons. Domestic demand in 2018 will be only 3.3 million tons (4th place in terms of pork consumption in the world). Russia exported 220 thousand tons of meat in 2017, which is 41% more than in 2016. Pork is one third of this volume.
