Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree on the provision of subsidies for compensation for losses in income due to preferential tariffs for farmers in the transportation of grain by rail, Agrovestnik reports. According to the decree published on the Russian Government website, subsidies will be provided to Russian Railways for compensation for losses in the grain transportation from the Altai and Krasnoyarsk Territories, the Kemerovo, Kurgan, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Orenburg and Tyumen Regions to certain regions of the Central, North-Western, Siberian , North Caucasus, Far Eastern and Southern Federal Districts.
The subsidy will be provided to Russian Railways in the amount of losses in income incurred from February 1 to August 31 of the current fiscal year (in 2019 - from the day the approved Rules came into force until August 31, 2019). Subsidizing grain transportation by rail at preferential tariffs will stimulate the export of grain surplus from regions remote from markets.
