China plans to conduct a study of contaminated soil and find a way to clean it for further use in agriculture. About 90% of unsuitable lands can be put into circulation by the end of 2020, said Minister of Environmental Protection Li Ganjie.
China plans to establish pilot zones to test technologies to prevent soil contamination, as well as to test ways to clean it. The cost of cleaning is estimated at 1 trillion CNY ($ 159 billion).
According to the data of 2013, 3.33 million hectares of land in China are considered unsuitable for use in agriculture because of the high level of pollution. In 2014 it was decided to stop polluting soils and rivers and complicate the ecological situation in the country.
