Grain harvest in Siberia is forecasted lower than last year

Gross grain harvest in the Siberian Federal District this year is forecasted at 14.5 million tons, which is less than last year's volume. This was announced by the representative of the President of Russia in the Siberian Federal District Sergey Menyaylo. "Last year, this indicator amounted to 14.9 million tons. The volume of grain harvest compared to 2018 may decrease in the Altai Territory and the Irkutsk region," the authorized representative’s press service reports with reference to Menyailo.

Weather conditions that could negatively affect the crop were recorded in several regions. Such factors include, among other things, overmoistening of the soil in the Novosibirsk and Omsk regions, and arid phenomena in the Altai Territory. A particularly difficult situation has developed in the Irkutsk region, where several districts were affected by the flood.

Omsk region this year expects to receive a crop of 3.3 million tons of grain. Governor of the Omsk region Alexander Burkov:

"We are concerned about the rains that can reduce the gluten content and, at the same time, the volumes of the collected grain of the 3rd class. Nevertheless, we will not have problems with grain of the 4th and 5th grade, and this is also export grain."
