Russia wants to create a 'green' brand for agricultural products

At the International Agroindustrial Forum, which is being held at VDNH as part of the Golden Autumn Exhibition, Dmitry Patrushev, Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, reported on activities to create a 'green' brand.

In July 2019, after a public discussion, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation finalized and prepared for submission to the State Duma (lower house of the Russian parliament) a draft federal law on environmentally friendly products, raw materials and food. As a result, a new concept appeared: food with improved environmental characteristics. As the Minister noted, the allocation of this segment of agricultural products is not a unique case in world practice. The term does not mean a decrease in quality requirements. The main difference between food with improved environmental characteristics from organic is that it is allowed to use a limited number of high-quality fertilizers in its production. Moreover, according to Patrushev, such products will be completely safe for humans and the environment. Organic foods are expected to be more exclusive and expensive than the affordable and ubiquitous 'green' brand food.
