The development of foreign trade remains one of the strategic objectives of agriculture. Now 72 out of 85 regions of the Russian Federation are involved in this process. At the same time, 68% of the total volume of shipments in value terms for seven months of this year was provided by the top 10. The main export categories of products are still grain, fat and oil products, fish and seafood.
The export rating of regions is actually not related to their geographical location, but rather to the peculiarity of the industry that provides the main export indicators. The position of the region in the rating will be influenced by the fact of export of products from its territory, and not its production. Thus, the fleets from which red and white fish species are exported are located in Vladivostok and Murmansk, respectively, these regions are among the leaders in the export of fish products. Grain is collected from different regions, and is exported, in fact, from only two (Rostov-on-Don and Krasnodar). Grain is accumulated in the transshipment granaries of these regions, enters the market and is recorded as an export from there, despite the fact that it is produced throughout the country.
The same logic is observed in the supply of sunflower oil: oilseeds are purchased for processing throughout the country, and the main processing facilities are concentrated in the Rostov region, which is the largest processing center, in the Krasnodar Territory and in the Kaliningrad region.
Thus, the regions from the central and internal regions of Russia are not included in the top 10, as they work on the raw material base, which is exported through export ports. There is no accounting policy for the movement of agricultural products within the country, which makes the system non-transparent. Thus, the top ten regions-leaders in the export of agricultural products include (in descending order): Rostov region, Moscow, Krasnodar Territory, Primorsky Territory, Kaliningrad region, St. Petersburg, Moscow region, Kamchatka Territory, Sakhalin region.
The Omsk region ranks 28th in the rating.
