Titan-Agro continues to replace livestock genetics

The Petrovsky Pig Farm (a separate subdivision of Titan-Agro LLC, Omsky Biocluster member) introduced 15 purebred boars and 40 gilts from the Canadian genetic company Genesus Genetics to the main herd. A second batch of 60 animals is expected to arrive in October-November 2020. In total, 115 animals were purchased to renew the livestock in 2020. The supplier is a Russian company that is a partner of Genesus Genetics, a global manufacturer of advanced genetics for pig breeding. The breeding reproducer is located in the Voronezh region. Young animals have a high potential for breeding and are adapted to the Russian conditions of industrial pig breeding.

The first group - boars of the Duroc, Landrace and Yorkshire breeds, as well as Yorkshire pigs - traveled 2,000 km and arrived in the Omsk region in the summer of 2020. For a month and a half, the pigs were in quarantine, undergoing the necessary medical procedures (laboratory tests and vaccinations), now the pigs are in the herd.

Earlier, in accordance with the strict requirements of veterinary legislation, Titan-Agro agreed with the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Omsk branch) the points of departure and arrival of animals, approved a route with an exact indication of all settlements and roads, and also received an import permit. "Purebred animals were purchased to gradually replace the genetics of the Irish company Hermitage Genetics with genetics Genesus Genetics," explained Alexander Kopyev, director of the Petrovsky Pig Farm. "According to our calculations, the laborious transition process will take several years."

The first step in this direction was taken at the pig farm in 2019, when 13 boars were purchased from the same breeding and genetic center. Today the total livestock of the Petrovsky Pig Farm exceeds 60,000 heads. Petrovsky Pig Farm belongs to the IV compartment - farms with the highest degree of biological protection.
