Omsk State Agrarian University (Omsky Biocluster member) entered the Green Metric global ranking of universities for the first time. In 2020, Omsk State Agrarian University took 31st place among 51 Russian universities-participants, demonstrating a high focus on creating an environmentally friendly campus that meets the goals of sustainable development of the UN. Omsk State Agrarian University took the fifth place among ten agrarian universities of Russia, which participated this year.
The Green Metric University Sustainability Ranking was developed by the University of Indonesia in 2010 and became the first international ranking to assess the contribution of universities to achieving sustainable development goals. Now the rating performs primarily the function of raising people's awareness of the problems of sustainable development, and also contributes to the internationalization of participating universities. However, the growing popularity of Green Metric and an extensive network of participating universities make it possible in the future to turn the ranking into an effective tool for directly addressing environmental problems. The methodology of the International Ranking is based on six groups of criteria on the basis of which the university is awarded points: environment and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transport, education.
Earlier OmSAU already participated in the rating Green Universities of Russia, and now it has moved to the international level. The university plans to continue to participate in the Green Metric ranking in order to better reflect the activities to promote eco-oriented education and make it more attractive for foreign partners and applicants.
