Efko Group will invest in artificial meat

Efko Group launches the production of cutlets and burgers on a vegetable basis. Product development is carried out on the basis of the Biryuch-NT Innovation Center (Belgorod region). Now a pilot line for the production of 500 kilograms of vegetable meat per month has been launched," the company said in a release. The basis of the recipe for vegetable meat is soy protein textured.

The launch of test sales of products is planned from September, mass sales will begin in early 2021. Retail sales of vegetable meat from Efko Group will be launched under a new brand, the trade mark is currently being registered.

One of the tendencies in recent years on the world food market has become the spread of 'artificial meat' - products made on the basis of plant ingredients. In particular, the American startup Beyond Meat, founded in 2009, has become widely known. The company produces artificial meat based on pea protein and other vegetable components.

According to Director General of Efko Innovations Andrey Zyuzin, the Efko Group, while analyzing the world market for functional food products, noted the steady interest of investors and consumers in alternative meat. "The plans of the IC Biryuch-NT include the development of textured vegetable protein based on sunflower," added Zyuzin, whose words are quoted in the release.

The Efko Group is engaged in the processing of oilseeds, the production of sauces, fat and oil, dairy and sour milk products (Sloboda and Altero are some of the Efko Group brands). Consolidated revenue of Efko in 2019 amounted to RUR 122 billion ($ 1.67 billion), net profit RUR 1.8 billion ($ 24.58 million). The main beneficiary of the group is Valery Kustov.
