Retail prices for meat in Russia in 2019 will be stable, such an opinion was expressed by the head of the executive committee of the National Meat Association, Sergey Yushin.
Yushin also noted that now wholesale prices for pork are falling rapidly, and prices for poultry meat remain at the level of January 1. The Q1 is considered a season of low demand due to the recession after the New Year holidays and Lent, the expert explained. “Does the decrease in wholesale prices affect retail? This is not always the case. Sometimes retail also lowers prices, and sometimes leaves prices as they were. Retail, as a rule, tries not to raise prices when delivery prices have risen and does not lower prices if they have fallen", Yushin said.
According to forecasts of the head of the executive committee of the National Meat Association, wholesale prices for pork in 2019 will be cheaper than in the previous year. It will happen due to the opening of new pig farms in Russia, increasing production and stable imports. "Competition will make selling products cheaper. And when pork falls in price, it affects the price of poultry meat, then the broiler also becomes cheaper," Yushin said.
