Omsk cattle will have a feed shortage

Animal breeders in Omsk region may experience problems with fodder harvesting this year because of late spring, which does not allow sowing annual grasses and delaying the growth of perennial plants, said the Minister of Agriculture and Food of Omsk region Maxim Chekusov.

"The abnormal weather does not give an opportunity to sow annual crops, perennial grasses that already had to ascend, grow very slowly. Already a question arises in the formation of the food base for the next period, " Chekusov said at a press conference.

According to the Minister, problems with feed can lead to a decline in the livestock productivity. "Difficulties already exist, dozens of farms grazed cattle to summer pastures, and the grass still has not risen," Chekusov said.

Omsk region is one of the leading agrarian regions of Russia. The area of farmland exceeds 3 million HA. Nearly 350 companies, 1.8 thousand farms, 286 thousand rural households are engaged in agricultural production. The livestock of cattle in the region is 379,4 thousand heads, pigs - 449,6 thousand heads, poultry - 7,6 million heads.
