Omsk: no radionuclides detected in food

In the first 9 months of 2018, the Laboratory of Quality and Safety of Products of Animal and Plant Origin, Feed and Environmental Objects of the Omsk Reference Center of the Rosselkhoznadzor (member of Omsky Biocluster) received 267 samples for the study of radionuclides.

Of these, 58 samples were tested for cesium-137, and 115 - for strontium-90. Excess not detected. Studies are conducted in test centers and laboratories in order to fulfill the requirements for radiological monitoring of food and water. The Omsk Reference Center of the Rosselkhoznadzor conducts radiological studies at the Laboratory for the Quality and Safety of Products of Animal and Plant Origin, Feed and Environmental Objects. This Laboratory is accredited to conduct research on the specific activity of technogenic radionuclides cesium-137 and strontium-90 of the following products: food raw materials and food products, objects of veterinary supervision and their products, feed, soil, water.

The correctness of sampling techniques significantly affects the objectivity and accuracy of the results of subsequent research and, therefore, the conclusion about the radiation state of the objects under study. Products of animal and vegetable origin that do not meet the mandatory safety requirements established by sanitary and veterinary rules and regulations have status 'dangerous'. The assessment of the compliance of the research results with the radiation safety requirements is carried out according to the results of measuring the specific activity of cesium-137 or iodine-131 radionuclides and absolute error.
