Russian meat market: Where will pork go?

The consumption of pork in Russia is growing, since its cost is lower than the cost of mutton, beef, turkey, rabbit and other types of meat, but higher than that of poultry.

Professor at the Department of Trade Policy of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics Ibragim Ramazanov:

"Such dynamics of growth in pork consumption is temporary, and in the medium term will not affect the development of the meat industry and agriculture. In the long term, as the population's solvency is restored, pork may become an alternative to poultry meat. In addition, in the future, pork may become one of the most important directions for the export of agricultural products. In the short and medium term, the economic prospects for the development of the market for other types of meat (turkey, rabbit, etc.) will not have positive dynamics".

According to the economist, the market for these types of meat will grow only with the growth of real incomes and the population's ability to pay.
