Quarantine weed is found in cumin seeds

Specialists of the Laboratory of Quarantine Phytosanitary Examinations and Surveys of the Omsk Reference Center of the Rosselkhoznadzor (member of Omsky Biocluster) found a quarantine weed in a consignment of cumin seeds from Egypt. The staff of the center, as a result of herological examinations, identified the dodder seeds.

 

Dodder is the most dangerous for plants parasite, combines great vitality with high fertility. The seeds of many types of dodder by weight, shape, and often color, are very similar to the seeds of cultivated plants on which they are parasitized. Differences between them are noticeable only to specialists with a close examination.

 

Omsk Reference Center's experts can provide qualified assistance in seed culture research. Information on the study results of this sample was sent to the Office of the Rosselkhoznadzor for Omsk region.
