Environment Friendly: Europe will halve pesticide use

The European Union plans to drastically limit the use of chemicals for plant protection and pest control. According to the new plans of the European Commission, their use should be reduced by 50% by 2030, according to the publication of Funke media group.

Similar restrictions on the use of chemical fertilizers are also expected. In addition, Brussels plans to promote the use of genetic engineering in growing plants in order to adapt to climate change.

It is expected that the new Green Deal Strategy for improving the environment in Europe will be presented by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Vice President Frans Timmermans, who oversees the environment. According to media reports, the presentation, as part of the Strategy, of proposals for the agricultural sector is planned in the spring of 2020, and the implementation of specific initiatives will begin no earlier than the end of the year, which will require the consent of most EU countries.
