The Russian authorities should reduce the number of pigs and poultry of villagers or reorient them to help develop the export of these types of products, says Sergei Mikhailov, the general director of the Cherkizovo Group.
"Villagers cannot provide adequate biosafety measures in pig and poultry farming. It is necessary to reduce the number of such livestock or subsidize regions for reorientation to other activities," Sergey Mikhailov said. A number of foreign countries today do not accept the Russian principle of regionalization, and the detection of bird flu or African swine fever in a separate region leads to the closure of supplies from the country as a whole. The solution of the problem should be the strengthening of work in the regions, primarily due to work with the livestock belonging to the villagers, he said.
Cherkizovo Group JSC is one of the three largest producers of chicken meat, pork and meat processing products in Russia. In 2018, the company produced about 1 million tons of meat products. The group includes 9 full-cycle poultry farms, 16 modern pig farms, 8 meat processing plants, as well as 9 feed mills and 287 thousand hectares of agricultural land.
