Spring and sowing campaigns are approaching. The Laboratory of Quarantine Phytosanitary Examinations and Surveys of the Omsk Reference Center of the Rosselkhoznadzor (Omsky Biocluster member) began to receive samples of corn seeds from the southern regions of Russia. Experts have already tested about 260 tons.
Corn seeds in the Omsk Reference Center undergo not only standard types of examinations — entomological and herbological, but also mycological research, for example, in order to reveal corn diploidosis. This common disease is detected by several methods: using a moist camera, by microscopic examination and by means of culture media.
Also, the Omsk Reference Center experts conduct bacteriological studies of seeds to identify the causative agent of bacterial wilt maize. Identification is carried out by modern laboratory diagnostics 'polymerase chain reaction'.
Violations in the incoming batches of corn seeds were not found. The farmers were given a conclusion on the quarantine phytosanitary seeds condition.
