The National Fruit and Vegetable Union appealed to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation with a request to impose a ban on the import of frozen French fries. The organization insists that import substitution "will increase the safety and quality of products produced and supplied to the end user." It will also contribute to the preservation of jobs at newly established processing enterprises.
According to the representative of the Union, the share of imports of fries is 94%, while Russian producers themselves can produce so much potatoes to replace imports. At present, the Netherlands and Poland are the main suppliers of frozen French fries to Russia. The Union did not specify what prevents the domestic enterprises from freely killing with the imported products now. Obviously, the next counter-forces will lead to restrictions on competition and the right of choice for consumers.
