Difficult weather conditions did not prevent Omsk farmers from harvesting 3.2 million tons of grain last year, which allowed the Omsk region to take 12th place among Russian regions and 2nd place in the Siberian Federal District. The volume of production of agricultural raw materials in the Omsk region can not only fully meet the needs of the region, but also to supply products for export. From the beginning of 2019, Omsk grain shipped 861,500 tons. This is 15.2% more than last year.
The Governor of the Omsk region, Alexander Burkov, actively lobbied for the region to increase its limits, so that Omsk farmers could get the most out of benefits for the transportation of grain:
"Last year, the Omsk region, thanks to preferential tariffs, exported 222,500 tons of grain by rail. Including due to this, the maximum result achieved in recent years for its export is 1.9 million tons. Of these, 1.3 million tons were transported by rail."
In 2019, the region submitted an application for transportation at preferential tariffs to 250,000 tons. In addition, Alexander Burkov appealed to the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Patrushev, with a request to revise the validity periods of preferential tariffs. Last year they were provided from February to August. However, this support tool is more relevant in the period immediately after the harvest - from October to May.
At the same time, the current Development Strategy of the Omsk region envisages the development of deep processing of grain crops as an element of the development of the region’s export potential (non-primary sector) within the Agrobiotechnological cluster.
