Spain creates ASF vaccine

The pig breeders hope that the vaccine against African swine fever virus (ASF) will finally be received. Spanish researcher José Manuel Sánchez-Vizcaíno, announced that after a half or two years, a vaccine against the virus will appear and the disease can be treated without destroying the population, reports portal CdeComunicacion.

"We have been engaged in this development for many years. I had many failures along the way. Last year we started working together with CISA-INIA and the University of Madrid, and we managed to achieve great success in fighting the ASF virus," says the researcher.

The multinational company CISA-INIA is ready to invest in the production of a vaccine developed by Spanish researchers, and deliver it to international markets. Vaccine research is carried out on wild boars. The presence of infected wild animals is a constant risk because it is difficult to control their movement. The risk can be minimized by mass vaccination of wild animals.
