Omsk Reference Center examines seeds

The Department of Seed Production and Plant Protection of the Omsk Reference Center of the Rosselkhoznadzor (member of Omsky Biocluster) for 2018 analyzed 3,883 seed batches weighing 4,229,790 centners. 11,123 samples were taken in 497 farms of Omsk region. 10,308 samples from 3068 batches with a total weight of 2,690,190 centrs were analyzed for sowing seed quality. Of these, 658 samples from 468 batches with a total weight of 1,093,510 centners were analyzed according to the state task, with which 2533 studies were conducted. Based on the results of which, 228 samples from 181 batches weighing 32,400 centners were considered non-compliant with the requirements of the standards.

In total, according to the results of tests for sowing qualities, 938 samples from 662 batches weighing 329,380 kg were recognized as unsuitable for various indicators. The seeds of the 2018 harvest did not pass the test, mainly in terms of contamination, however, some batches showed low germination. The decrease in the number of tested seeds in comparison with the figures for 2017 is associated with adverse weather conditions during the growing season of plants and the late protracted harvesting of crops in the region. Most farms did not complete the work with the seed fund and the seed check was postponed until spring 2019.

In 2018, specialists of the Seed Production and Plant Protection Department tested 245,102 hectares of agricultural crops and 330,502 hectares were registered. During the work on certification of seeds and planting material in the system of voluntary certification 'SemStandard' 450 certificates were issued. Also, experts analyzed 280 batches (110 195 pieces) of planting material of fruit crops grown in nurseries of Omsk region. All planting material meets the requirements of standards.

535 seed batches were investigated in the field of plant protection. The results showed that the majority of the parties are affected by various diseases, to one degree or another, farms are given recommendations for working with seeds.

The Plant Protection Laboratory is the only manufacturer of biological products 'Elena' and 'Azolen' in Omsk Region. They are used for seed dressing against smut infections and root rot. Biological disinfectants increase the seed germination energy, increase plant resistance to adverse weather conditions, including spring frosts and drought, which ultimately leads to a significant increase in yield. The use of tank mixtures of herbicides with biological products can significantly increase the effectiveness of etching, as a technological method.
