Russia: This year's harvest will exceed the previous

This year's harvest will exceed last year's - more than 126 million tons of grain have already been harvested. Such conclusions follow from the report of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia at the meeting of the Government of the Russian Federation.

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation expects to receive wheat only at least 82 million tons. This is 7.5 million more than a year earlier. At the same time, it remains to thresh another eight percent of the sown area. "The hype demand for food, which happened during the acute phase of the spread of coronavirus, has successfully passed," said Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. "In fact, the problem of food security has been solved, and now we are working to strengthen our food independence." Thus, in addition to the tasks of domestic grain provision, Russian farmers will be able to increase export volumes.

For eight months of this year, the production of agricultural products has almost doubled compared to the same period last year. Moreover, production volumes are growing in many areas. For example, the increase in yield in greenhouses will be almost 20 percent higher than last year.
