Russian Agricultural Bank (Omsk Branch is a member of Omsky Biocluster) is negotiating the purchase of a share of DonBioTech LLC, which is building a plant in Rostov region for deep processing of grain and producing lysine amino acid. Today, the bank owns 5% of DonBioTech (through RSHB-Finance).
RusAg and the German partner of the project, Evonik, initiated an audit of DonBioTech’s assets, and a co-investor search is planned for the future. 95% of DonBioTech is owned by Cyprus Rusferm Limited, which, according to RBC, is controlled by entrepreneur and former State Duma deputy Vadim Varshavsky. In March, he was arrested on suspicion of fraud.
Rostov Region Governor Vasily Golubev expects the project to be completed by the end of 2019. In August, he reported that 11-12B RUR ($ 166M - 181M) already invested in construction (out of 15B RUR, $ 227M). Initially it was assumed that the plant for the deep processing of grain was supposed to be launched in 2014. DonBioTech is expected to become the third lysine manufacturer in Russia. Zavod Premiksov No. 1 operates in Belgorod region, and AminoSib operates in Tyumen region.
