Russia will increase meat exports this year by 30%, and imports of this product will reduce by 30-40%, said leading analyst of the National Meat Association (NMA) Diana Nizovtseva.
"The decrease in import of three types of meat - pork, beef and poultry - in Russia this year could reach 30-40%. Imports from non-CIS countries are estimated at 400-500 thousand tons, while Belarus can import up to 300 thousand tons", the expert calculated. As a result, the share of meat imports in the Russian market following the results of this year may reach 7% against 10% last year.
According to Diana Nizovtseva, the negative dynamics of imports is due to the development of domestic production. So, in January-April, according to Rosstat, pig production in agricultural enterprises increased by 11.7%, cattle - by 6.2%, poultry - by 4.2%. As for exports, last year we exported more than 300 thousand tons of meat products abroad. "This year the export continues to grow, according to our forecast, by the end of the year it may exceed 400 thousand tons, having increased by almost 30%," Nizovtseva said. She believes that by 2024 the supply of meat to foreign markets will reach 1 million tons.
