Argentina first approved GMO wheat in the world

Argentine biotech company Bioceres was allowed to grow genetically modified wheat. Thus, Argentina became the first country in the world to approve the cultivation of this type of wheat.

The yield of GMO wheat is 20% higher. It is drought tolerant. This is especially true for growers, as the climate in Argentina has changed significantly in recent years. Opponents of GMOs are wary of a new type of wheat: scientists fear the threat from its side to biodiversity on the planet. Previously, only corn and soybeans had GMO species in the world. Brazil, as the main importer of Argentina's agricultural products, has not yet agreed to import such wheat. After receiving permission, GMO wheat will go on sale.
