A Codling moth was brought to Omsk

A larva with suspicion of a quarantine object was received at the Laboratory of Quarantine Phytosanitary Examinations of the Omsk reference center of the Rosselkhoznadzor (Omsky Biocluster member). As a result of an entomological examination, the Codling moth, a quarantine object for the Russian Federation, was identified. The insect was found in a batch of peaches weighing 6 tons.

 

Peach codling moth - a pest insect that causes damage to both wild and cultivated plants, causes damage to stone fruit, pome seeds. Caterpillars of this species choose fruit tree fruits: apples, peaches, apricots, plums, cherries and many others. More than one caterpillar can exist in one fruit. Crop loss can be from 70% to 90%. Damaged apple fruits turn yellow, rot and fall. The fruits of apricots and peaches ripen unevenly and during transportation, the caterpillars from infected fruits can move to healthy ones and cause decay of the fruits.

 

Information on the results of the expertises of the Omsk Reference Center was sent to the Rosselkhoznadzor (Omsk Branch).
